Ok, Im way past school to get spring breaks, but I did anyway. Just to give you the lo down I have never been on a vacation in the west coast aside from our Las Vegas trip in 2004. This California trip to my mom’s neck of the woods made it more exciting and something I had looked forward to in a long time. I have not seen my mom in 18 months.
So itinerary was for me to leave Boston on March 19 and arrive back on the 27th. Stops will be in Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, Long Beach and Sta. Cruz.
I worked until 1:30pm then took a cab to Logan Airport. I would have taken the train had it not been for the rain. I took a non-stop JetBlue flight, leaving Boston at 4:05pm. JetBlue is my second favorite airline next to Cathay Pacific.
Highlights:
- Travelling with JetBlue is great! They have comfy leather seats, lots of leg room, free TV, wifi and blue potato chips.
- Flight left Boston and arrive San Jose on time, just missing the storm that delayed flights out of Boston for over two hours.
- There was an empty middle seat and I had an isle seat. I ended up splitting the mid-seat space with the old man on the window seat who was very nice and kind to me. After small chats he offered his window seat to me when he found out I was travelling to California for the first time
Low Lights:
- Knowing ahead of time that airlines only offer beverages and snacks (read chips or cookies or peanuts) these days, I ate at the airport and baught some light dinner that I can eat aboard the plane. Both of them were horrible but more on that later.
I arrive in San Jose at 9pm (midnight Boston time) I was tired, hungry and hot. It was actually in the 70s out there that night, which is suppose to be nice but living with 30s here, made 70s feel like a heatwave. LOL!
Mom made dinner which consisted of the only meal she can make – breakfast food (sausage, eggs, tomato and rice) and after I sat in front of her fan for 15 minutes we ate and I showered and crashed.
RESTAURANT REVIEWS:
Johnny Rockets Diner at Terminal C - past security gates (Logan Airport)
This diner has got to be one of my favorite chains. Their burgers are usually juicy and delicious and their malted fraps are to die for. Unfortunately, this particular location sucked big time. Their burger patties were precooked and re-heated making it overly dry. The frap was not well blended and I ended up with ice cream clumps. Disgusting. What a waste of my $15. After working all day with no meal and rushing to the airport the last you wanted to get is dry hockey puck on bread with lettuce and cheese. Note to burger flippers, I understand I was at the airport and probably the reason why your patties were pre-made but please refrain at all cause from patting the beef with your spatula. Also avoid giving it all your weight. All the juices runs out and all you ever serve your customers are pieces of cardboard tasting overcooked meat!
Other places to eat around Terminal C: Wolfgang Puck Express, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. There are more outside the security gates and around the other side of the terminal. I should have gone to one of the better places to grab better grub.
CIBO
Ok, lunch was a disaster, so I wanted to get a better meal for the 6 hour flight. CIBO is a kiosk like store with wide array of salads, sanwiches, sliced fruits, chips and cookies displayed in their cool chests on the wall. After much deliberation I ended up picking up a chicken salad sandwich on pecan-raisin wheat bread. To be healthier I also grabbed a bowl of sliced fruits (strawberry, melon, grapes, pineapples and mango). How can one go wrong right? REALLY WRONG would be my answer. Three hours into my flight I decided to whip out my dinner and was dismayed to find out that the bread was so dry and the chicken salad was so bland, it was so bad that after a couple of bites I decided to save it for the birds. Moving on to the really good looking sliced fruits, I was equally dismayed to find out the straberries and pineapple were so tart, and the mangoes were mushy. I was only satisfied with the few pieces of melon and grapes. Waste of another $15. I just chucked a whopping $30 in really really bad food. (sigh, at this point I resorted to eating chips and soda) Watching food tv and napping through the flight.
Tip for people who are travelling through Logan Terminal C. Grab food elsewhere than they two mentioned above. Better off eat somewhere you like before you go to the airport. It will save you your money and grief.

PHOTO: The individual TV attached to the back of the headrest of the person in front of me, aboard JetBlue flight to San Jose. Watching Giada on Food TV. They have sattelite TV and XM radio. They also have one chanel of google map that outlines the actual plane location and its distance from where you came from and to destination.
More pictures later, I know your brain is already bleeding from all that reading. LOL!
