Food and Cooking

It was actually Wanda who started it all posting all this yummy hot pot / shabu shabu / steam boat photos on her flickr.  That made me crave for it.

Then last sunday Jun and I went to museum and planned to eat at this Japanese Shabushabu place in Chinatown.  Unfortunately there was no spot for us to park so we ended up driving to Quincy to Little Q hotpot.  It was just so-so.  I did not like it as much as the one in Chinatown.  Needless to say my craving wasnt that satisfied.  I know I will come back for more.

It’s been snowing and raining today, and we planned to try making our own version of shabu shabu at home using our portable stove.  Our former chinese and vietnamese landlord use to do it a lot and would sometime invite us over for dinner.  I think I can do this.

At the store last night I started shopping for ingredients, I picked up whatever I could as far as ingredients goes.  Tonight I will pick up a few more veggies and some mushrooms and maybe some fish cake.  Hopefully it won’t end up being a disaster.

I better get going so I can get to my very hungry husband at home.  Will let you know how it turned out.

So there was a little glitch yesterday, hopefully that won’t happen again.

I am eventually moving to Lakwatsera.net.  I pretty much completed the transfer and was just waiting to age the site.

I made this box, supposedly as a gift for a friend who moved on his own and did not know how to cook. For some reason, it never made it to him. I kept the box on my desk and keep adding recipes to it that I make and learn along the way.

I can only rely on my husband cooking when it is time to make pancit canton and rubs for grilled meats. He’d also get by if you ask him to fry stuff without fearing of eating burnt food. That was until Jun stayed home for a few months last year and would do the house chores and cooking meals. He’s made the best tinola and igado. He’d follow one recipe a day until he covered all the cards and would pick his favorite and would memorize how it’s done or spin it to his taste buds.

Now I barely cook on during the week. Jun get’s home a couple of hours before I do and usually he’d have food almost ready if not already on the table before I get home. I still cook during the weekends and on nights when he doesn’t feel like cooking. I feel so spoiled. Once I reign our kitchen and would whip 4-5 dishes on weekends, now we share the chore and would even help each other in preparing food. If he cooks, I slice and dice for him, and vice versa.

What about you, what stuff were you able to teach your spouses?
